In Mombasa

We left Edoret Saturday morning (so we couldn't train the host church). As we drove through Eldoret town to the airport there were gentle reminders of the post-election violence last year. Fresh paint and shiny corrugated iron sheets on buildings replacing those turn down or burned because of tribal fighting when 100s of people were killed. Eldoret was one of the hardest hit areas. Much healing is needed here.

We flew on a "big" plane (40-50 pax) to Nairobi then boarded the next plane to Mombasa, arriving around noon. We had lunch with Rev. Stanley Wainana, senior pastor of Christian Truth International Center in Likoni, and enjoyed a time of fellowship and renewing of relationships. His church has CR.

We got to walk on the beach and dip our toes in the Indian Ocean and enjoy the fresh ocean breeze and relax for the afternoon and evening.

Sunday morning we crossed the ferry with little wait - praise God. We attended CTIC with Rev. Stanley. The open air and corrugated tin church is located in a 90% Muslim community. It has been torn down twice in the last 4 years to encourage them to move elsewhere but they are commited to standing firm. During the service we shared our testimonies and Mike "preached". We now call him Pastor Mike. This afternoon we are just hanging out and relaxing at our guest house. We have been blessed with good weather, it's not too hot.

Please pray for good rest and good health for us as we prepare for the 4-day seminar that starts tomorrow. I'm sure it will start on Kenya time, not ours. Pray for the people that will attend, that their hearts are open.

Thanks for the prayers and encouraging comments, it's comforting to us and helps us feel connected. Tomorrow (Monday) we get to celebrate Mike's birthday, one that I suspect he will not forget. How often do you get to celebrate your birthday in Kenya?

  2. It appears that, as usual, God's timing has been perfect! We are praying for the team's continued good health and safety and that God uses the 4-day seminar to spread healing throughout Kenya and beyond. Wish we could be there to celebrate Mike's birthday with you all--I think it will be spectacular!

  3. We are wondering if you have met with Eljah Wanje, Pastor of Ridgeway Baptist Church in Nairobi where Celebrate Recovery is offered. His nephew, Zeke Kikuyu, is a member of our former church here in Arizona. Eljah has visited here in recent years. Thank you for your daily accounting of what the team is experiencing and how God is working in your lives and those you are meeting with! May the next four days of seminar be blessed with His wisdom as you share CR and may the hearts and minds of those attending be open to His leading in their lives! What joy it is to uphold you all in prayer, as you minister! May Pastor Mike's birthday celebration be an incredibly blessed time for him! Love you, son!

  4. JAMBO! Agape to each of you. So glad you could visit Rev. Stanley's church again with the lively kids' choir singing and dancing their hearts out & that "Postah Mike" was preaching his heart out too. For being in a Muslim arena, these guys don't exactly keep a lid on it. HAPPY B-DAY MIKE!! (we have something besides CR in common.)

Praying for continued good health, evening reflective walks on the beach, laughter (can never take ourselves too seriously...of course, CJ & Paul help out in that area -- hi guys).

Praying for personal recovery in the hearts of those attending, for a spirit of openness with each other to support one another after the mzungus have gone, that they would catch the vision of 'healing through revealing' with their churches, and that they would draw in the hurting from among their communities.

Please strengthen my mzungu friends, refresh them - each one (Linda, Kelly & Teri too) with Your living water. Help them to know YOU ARE....and that you are with them!

I will be with you. I will not fail you. I will not abandon you. Be strong & courageous! (Joshus 1:5,7)

Asante sana, Bwana - in Jesus' name!

  5. Does missionary work get any better?!?!? You bet it does! God is so gracious and has blessed us with the opportunity to hear the news from you all! Keep doing God's work, He has prepared each of you for 'such a time as this'. In time there will be an opportunity to conduct a CR Summit in Kenya and as the W.A.V.E. continues to swell there, you are riding the the perfect opportunity that God has you there for, which is for His purpose and for the restoration of a country. God bless you all in all you do this day, Your brother in Christ,

    John Brennan
